Free Humidifier

Want a little extra moisture in the air throughout your house and SAVE on your electric bill at the same time, you can do it by hanging up your laundry inside your house instead of using your dryer. The wet clothes will slowly put moisture into the air as they dry, serving as a FREE humidifier and by not using your dryer you are SAVING a huge amount on your electric bill.

Another plus to hang drying is that your clothes don't fade or shrink as fast.

Soap Scum Problem

If you are tired of scrubbing soap scum off your shower walls, shower stall or bath tub, I have a simple trick for you. Start using liquid soap or shower gel and avoid using bar soap. Bar soap leaves behind a film, which if not cleaned daily eventually turns to hardened soap scum. Switching to liquid soap or shower gel, not only leaves your shower and tub soap scum FREE but leaves your skin FREE of soap residue. This will also SAVE you time when cleaning.

Reusing Sponges - Quick Tip

Instead of throwing your sponges away after only one or two uses, try washing your sponge in either the washing machine or the dishwasher. I like to use the "chore boy sponges" wrapped in the mesh like material because they tend to last longer and won't fall apart easily and they can be thrown in the washing machine with my towels. If I have used one of the sponges on a heavily soiled item, I will immediately stick it in my dishwasher and let it wash with the daily dishes. I do not recommend this tip for any sponge that is already falling apart as the pieces may come loose and clog your machines. By washing my sponges, I get a little bit longer cleaning life out of them and that SAVES me money by not having to buy so many sponges.

Buy With An Incentive

With the economy in such a mess these days, I have noticed that most stores are now offering incentives to shop with them and one common incentive is a FREE Gift Card with purchase. I have seen some stores offering the FREE Gift Cards in amounts starting as low as $5 and some as high as $50. These FREE Gift Cards can be used as gifts for someone on your shopping list. A $5 - $10 gift card is excellent for a child's stocking stuffer or even as a gift alone. The higher amount gift cards can be used for anyone from a teen to an adult. Using these FREE Gift Cards as gifts will SAVE you money. Check your local Sunday newspaper for the current weeks ads and compare.

Magazine Subscriptions

Still don't know what to get that certain someone who seems to have everything already, or that hard to buy for relative, or maybe its a neice or nephew that you don't really know much about, well try a magazine subscription.

Magazine subscriptions make the perfect gift because they keep on giving each month or week they are delivered. Now that November is here and the Christmas holiday is fast approaching, you can find magazines that will offer you discounts or free gifts. Most magazines will also send your recipient a nice card letting them know that they will be receiving a subscription courtesy of you. Magazine subscriptions SAVE you time and money.

An example of this: While standing in line at the grocery store the other day, the cover of Family Fun magazine caught my eye, so I purchased the magazine. Later that evening, I began looking through the magazine when one of those little index sized subscription cards fell out and it read "2 subscriptions for the price of 1" and the price was only $14.95 for 10 issues. This is a SAVINGS!! Perfect for me, as I will now be able to cross off two moms on my Christmas list. This gift will not only benefit the moms but also the children in the house.

Need help finding the right magazine, use the link under my "Really Good Sites" This site has magazines for everyone.

Coupon Sharing

We all know that we can SAVE money using coupons but what if we could SAVE a little time also. A majority of us who use coupons probably get them out of the Sunday newspaper. Well I have another way for you to get coupons. Of course you can search the web, as there are many sites that offer printable coupons. (I will list some of those later), but what about coupon sharing. Coupon sharing is just that, sharing. Coupon sharing is where you, your family, your friends or a group of any type get together and share or swap coupons. If you cant find a Coupon Share Group in your area, start one yourself. Its not a necessity to have a group, start with you and your best friend or your neighbor but the more the merrier and the more coupons to select from. I personally swap with a coworker and a friend who lives out of town, so our only expense is the cost of a stamp. Swapping can take place at anytime, in passing or a gathering at someones home where you can swap and eat. With everyone pitching in coupons you are SAVING time by not having to clip them yourself and you are SAVING money from all the coupons you have acquired.

Easy Taco Dip

Today I am going to share a simple recipe that you can throw together quickly and easily. This recipe will SAVE you time in the kitchen and can be used on any occasion such as last minute BBQ's or just snacking around the house.

Easy Taco Dip

16 oz Cream Cheese
8 oz Sour Cream
1 pkg Taco Seasoning
Shredded Cheese
Lettuce Chopped
1 Tomato Diced Small
Dipping Chips - your choice

Mix together your cream cheese and sour cream (I use my hand mixer) until well blended
Add your taco seasoning (using hand mixer) until well blended
Spread your mixture into the bottom of a 9 x 9 dish of any type (glass, stone, plastic)
Layer your last 3 ingredients - cheese, lettuce and tomato on top to your preference (no limit)
Now dip away with the chips of your choice

HINT - I use a plastic Rubbermaid container w/lid purchased at the dollar store (SAVINGS), this way I can easily cover the dish for storage in the refrigerator if there should be left overs.

Children And Medication

I want to share a little trick that my grandmother used on me when I was a little girl to get me to take medication, especially pills. I was reminded of this in a recent conversation and wanted to pass it on.

Applesauce - My grandmother would take my pills, smash them up and mix them in applesauce when I wasn't looking. I would eat the applesauce and never knew the difference. If your child doesn't like applesauce, find something they do like, perhaps its peanut butter, pudding or even yogurt. Remember, if you trying this with liquid medication, make sure you are using something that can hide the color of the liquid as well as the taste.

This trick really doesn't SAVE you any money but will SAVE you time and your patience.

Edible Deal

With the holiday season coming quickly, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years you will notice that a few of my blogs have already been and will be dedicated to different ways of SAVING you money and time on holiday gifts and decor.

My latest find is downright DELICIOUS - "Davids Cookies"!! Cookies sound great don't they, but "Davids Cookies" is more than just cookies.
They also offer the following:
  • Brownies
  • Pies
  • Cakes
  • Scones
  • Gift Baskets
  • Cookie Of The Month
  • Cookies (Pre-made and Dough)

"Davids Cookies" offers gifts for the holidays. Right now you can find goodies dedicated to Halloween. One of my favorite items at the moment is the - Cookie Play Dough - which comes in a pack of 4 colors (red, yellow, blue, green). Since the dough is already colored for you, this will SAVE you time in the kitchen and will allow you to let your imagination go wild with designs. The colored dough will come in handy for myself around the Christmas holiday when making ornament cookies. This dough also makes the perfect afternoon craft for children, just grab a few cookie cutters, some candy sprinkles and find a surface they can work on and you have a whole afternoon of fun and giggles. And moms, there is no problem if the little one decides to sample a bite or two.

The best part of all - FREE Shipping all the time, not just a limited time. So go ahead and order a Gift Basket or two for family and friends, the SAVINGS will roll in. Use the link provided below or under my "Really Good Sites"

Yard Sales

Tips For A Successful Yard Sale

  1. Advertise - Signs, signs and more signs. Place more than one sign at the ends of your street so that traffic coming in both directions will be able to see them. Ask your local grocery store, gas station, post office and any other local business if you can tack up a flyer containing the information regarding your yard sale. Tell all of your friends and coworkers and have them tell all of their friends and coworkers. Put your signs up a day or two in advance.
  2. Information - Make sure your signs and flyers contain all the pertinent information such as the day, date, time, address, directions and items. If you are selling furniture, write that on the sign. Sometimes people are looking for certain items and if you place your signs out early they are more likely to make a note to come by your yard sale. Put arrows on your signs pointing the way. If you live on a long or winding road, make sure you put such things as "first house on the right" or "blue house on left".
  3. Pricing - Starting a few days prior to your yard sale, start gathering all of the items you intend to sell and start pricing them. Make sure you are not over pricing, this is a yard sale and you are trying to get rid of the items. Be ready to haggle on the price, once again this is a yard sale and you are looking to get rid of your items. Most people are looking for a bargain and if you items are too high priced, close to the price you paid for the item or you are not willing to wheel and deal you will be stuck hauling your items back into the house.
  4. Set Up - Make sure you have enough tables to showcase all of your items. If you will be selling clothes, make sure you have them properly showcased. Tie some string, wire or line up so that you can hang the items on hangers for better viewing. Have all of your items ready on display by the time you have advertised that your yard sale starts. Have on hand bags or boxes for your customers to carry their goodies home with them.
  5. Earlier The Better - Most people like to yard sale early in the morning before the sun gets up and gets hot. Plan to start your sale early in the morning. Early bird gets the worm.
  6. Money - Get yourself a small cash box or an apron with pockets to hold your money. Make sure that you have enough change on hand, such as ones, quarters and maybe a few fives for the big spenders.
  7. Friends/Family - Invite a friend or family member to bring their items to sell. The more items, the more people will hang around and look. It also gives you company during those slow moments. Remember, you are trying to get rid of your stuff, so don't be tempted to purchase your friend/family members items.

If you follow those simple little tips, you will have a successful yard sale. The money you make can be SAVED for a rainy day or used to purchase all new items to take the place of the ones you just sold. Happy Selling!!!!

In my search for finding holiday, birthday and any occasion gifts on a budget, I came across The Lakeside Collection website. There I was able to find some one of a kind gifts that I couldn't find anywhere else for great SAVINGS. I even found a gift for our dog. I placed a small order with them to make sure I was dealing with a reputable company and am happy to report that I was and do plan to order in the future. I happened to order an item that was out of stock and was immediately notified prior to the shipping of my order instead of having to learn that when my items arrived. My items arrived safe and sound within two weeks of the order and were packaged well. You can view the catalog online or have one delivered to your home. You may also order online, by mail or phone, the choice is yours. If you want to get a jump on your Christmas shopping, then this is a great place for you to get started.

Buttons And Links

This site was started because of my love for SAVING and SHARING. I also started this site because of all the run around or dead sites out there. I was tired of clicking on sites that often lead to vulgar sites or to sites that just didn't exist anymore at all. I was also tired of receiving the spam or junk mail just for visiting a site.

Every link or button on my site has been tried and tested by myself personally. I also recheck each link and button often to verify that it is still leading to the site intended and is not showing as a dead site or leading to any other site.

Thank you for your taking the time to look over my site. Leave a comment or feedback anytime.

Cleaning Out Book Clutter

I started buying books for my daughter almost from the time she born. I spent a fortune at my local grocery stores buying the books of the week, yes all 20 volumes sometimes, and I spent another fortune during the elementary years buying books from the monthly scholastic forms that came home in the book bag. I volunteered at the School Book Fairs where yes, I bought even more books. When my daughter got a little older she turned to reading chapter books, where once again, I spent a fortune on Nancy Drew Mysteries and more. I then had to spend a small fortune buying book shelves and storage totes for all these books to have a place.

One day, I just couldn't take it anymore. I had to get rid of some of the books. I passed along what I could to whoever would take them, but I was still left with quite a few books. I called my local library and asked if they took donations. They did but only took books in good condition, so for the next hour or so I went through my daughters entire book collection and pulled out her favorites to keep, threw away the worn and torn ones and boxed up what was left. I took the boxed up books down to my local library.

The librarian gave me a paper which contained the total number of books I donated and an estimated price for all the books. This gave me a little SAVINGS on my taxes for that year.

If you have any books that you can't use or don't need anymore, call up your local city library or the nearest school to you and see if they allow for donations, I can bet you they wont turn you down. Funding for new books too often takes a back seat. Donating the books helps declutter your home and SAVES you space.

Fun Survey Site

Have you tried any of those survey sites that promise "Make Tons Of Money In Your Spare Time Doing Surveys Online"? I have. Have you seen some of those survey sites that show you the "supposed"checks that have been earned by some of their members? I have. Have you signed up for some of those sites? I have. How many times have you wasted your time starting a survey only to learn 20 questions in that "Sorry You Don't Qualify". I have..

Let me SAVE you from those sites and tell you about a site that I have been doing now for over 2 years. This site offers you the opportunity to earn points for completing surveys, which can then be turned into cash and prizes. This site is a bit different though, as they only send you surveys that 99% of the time you are already qualified for and if by that 1% chance you don't qualify, you still get the points offered in the beginning. Depending on the survey and the answers that you give, you can qualify in the middle of a survey for more points for continuing on the subject and answering more questions. Once you are established with them, you may be asked to participate in surveys by mail or you may be asked to sample an item at home and complete and online survey. My husband and I are involved in one of the in home surveys now. All of this offers you the opportunity to earn points as well. Every 1000 pts = $10! They add up fast and you can redeem at anytime after earning 1000 pts.

This is by no means a get rich quick scheme but it is fun and it is a site that you can trust. You can sign up here or use the link under my "Really Good Sites" to get started.

Collect The Rain

Do you pay a water bill? Start SAVING money by collecting the rain. Get yourself a decent size rain barrel or some type of bucket that you can put a lid on top of to keep out bugs and trash. When it rains, remove the lid and let the rain collect inside.

What can you do with the water you have collected? You can SAVE money by not using your current water source when you water such things as:
  • inside plants
  • outside plants
  • gardens and yards
  • or washing the dog

I can tell you from my own personal experience, that by doing this I can keep my water bill between $20 and $25 a month (on occasion it has been less than $20) for a family of 3 very active adults. Give it a try, every little bit counts.

Hang It Up

Instead of throwing your clothes in the dryer, hang them up. If you have enough room somewhere in your yard, put up a clothes line. Your clothesline doesn't have to be the fancy two to four liner and it doesn't have to be permanent in the ground. Grab a line/rope of any type and tie it between two trees as I have done in my yard. By doing this I SAVED on materials, with my only out of pocket expense being the clothes pins and line (both of which were found at the dollar store).

Those of you who live in apartments or condos or just don't have enough yard, don't fret, you too can still hang up your clothes. Most department stores carry fold up clothes lines, that when opened do not take up very much room. You can also try RV supply stores for fold up, on the go, clothes lines as well.

What is the biggest benefit of hanging up your laundry? SAVING MONEY!! SAVING on:
- electric bill
- clothes - they will not have that already worn ten times look and need to buy new ones
- you wont be heating up your house by using the dryer in turn running the air conditioner
- dryer wear and tear

If you are not so sure about hanging your clothes out, start small. Try hanging up your towels, your sheets or comforter, your jeans and move on from there. TIP - when hanging clothes outside, check them often and pull them in when they are dry. This will keep the fresh laundry smell and soft touch in them. Leaving them hanging on the line for several hours after they dry can result in rough, outdoorsy smelling clothes.

Credit Card Statements

How many of you receive your credit card statements either by postal mail or email/online and just automatically make a payment without looking at or just barely glancing at your statement? STOP!! Mistakes are made everyday and lets face it those credit card companies want to get every dime out of you that they can.

From first hand experience - Most of my credit card statements come via email/online and normally I pay them myself but on this one occasion my husband decided he wanted to sit with me. (I think he wanted to see if I had spent anything without telling him) As I was paying one of our credit cards online the current statement came up on the computer screen and my husband noticed a charge for $14.99 for a credit report company. We both looked at each other and asked "what did you buy?" Neither of us could recall having done this, so we called our credit card company immediately and explained the situation. Come to find out this was the second month we had been charged this amount and I never bothered to look at my statement carefully the previous month or I would have caught it then. The customer service rep was a great help, she not only credited us back the month that we caught but she credited us back the previous month I missed and the finance charge for both months. We had to answer a few questions so that the credit card company could investigate but it was worth it.

Always take the time to thoroughly review your credit card statements every month. It wouldn't hurt to check your monthly utility statements as well. Doing this will not only SAVE you money but SAVE you the time it takes to call and straighten it all out. Some companies may not be as nice as our credit card company.

I just happen to be the Aunt to one of the greatest little girls in the world, but unfortunately I also live several hours away and do not get the opportunity to visit with her as often as I would like. Quick Tip - Floor Cleaning Solution

Do you have a problem keeping your floors or hard wood floors clean? I have a simple solution for you. "Ammonia" - Get yourself a mop and a mop bucket and mix a cup of ammonia with a gallon of water. Using this solution will deep clean any floor surface you may have and make them shine. Ammonia will also strip any wax buildup you may already have on your hard wood floor. Always make sure to ring out your mop thoroughly to avoid excess water on the floor which can in turn cause your floor to buckle. Ammonia can also be diluted with water and used in spray bottles to clean counter tops, bathrooms and so much more.

Ammonia is a very effective cleaner that can be purchased at most grocery stores for no more than a $1 a bottle. You can even find it at most Dollar Stores for just that $1. This can SAVE you tons of money a year over other name brand cleaners and you get the same results.

Visit Your Favorite Brand

Do you have a favorite brand that you like to use all the time? Did your favorite brand go up in price recently? Did your local supermarket quit carrying your favorite brand and now the only way for you to get it is to drive all the way across town? Well, for me the answers would be Yes, Yes and Yes!! and the item would be my favorite laundry detergent...

I was at my local supermarket picking up a few needed items for the house when I noticed that my favorite laundry detergent had a closeout sign in front of it, along with a clearance price. Oh No!! Not my favorite!! They were still going to carry the brand but not my favorite scent. The closest place to get my favorite scent was now on the other side of town, out of my way. What was I going to do? I really loved that scent. I had others comment on the great smell of my clothing.

I finally logged onto my computer, visited my favorite brands website, and clicked on their "Contact Us" button. I explained to them that my local supermarket was not going to carry my favorite scent of their brand anymore and the only place to get it was going to be on the other side of town. I let them know how much I really liked the scent and did they happen to know of any other locations a little closer to me that I might be able to purchase it. They responded back to me almost immediately with several locations that I would be able to purchase my favorite scent and a link from their website to print out coupons for money off to use towards the purchase of my favorite scent. Yeah, Coupons! We all love coupons right, well, imagine my surprise when in the mail a few weeks later I received a Thank You for contacting them and letting them know how much I liked their brand and more coupons, only these coupons were for FREE bottles of detergent. Yeah!!

Shredding? Yes, Shredding!

I know, shredding doesn't sound like it has anything to do with SAVING at all, but it does. If you don't already have a shredder, I suggest you invest in one. It doesn't have to be a fancy shredder, just one that gets the job done. Why do I suggest this? One of the biggest problems we face today is Identity Theft and one way to SAVE your Identity is to shred. Shred anything that you no longer need that may contain your personal information such as your birth date, social security number, drivers license number, checking account information, credit card account numbers and the list goes on and on. I even shred mail that comes in that contains my full name and address.

Do you throw away those pesky catalogs that come in without reading or checking them out first? You may be throwing away your personal information. Nowadays, catalogs will have an order form about middle ways through or at the end of the catalog, that already contains your name and address and now some already have a preapproved account or account number for you. What if that gets into the hands of the wrong person. You will then be stuck with a bill for items you never even saw to purchase. Take the time to sift through and pull those order forms out and shred them. Two minutes of your time and the price of that shredder is better than years of trying to get your life back.

What can you do with all those shreddings? I have a shredder that cross cuts fine sized pieces and I use them as cushion or to fill space when I am mailing packages. My husband has also started a compost in the back yard and he uses the paper to fill his compost pile, therefore no waste. That is how shredding can SAVE you.
